welcome to Hawkdun Lodge

Hawkdun Lodge offers quality accommodation in Ranfurly for recreational and business travellers.

Our complex has 13 spacious attractively presented units, a large guest lounge called the 'Hawkdun Room' and an indoor spa pool. Hawkdun Lodge suits groups and individuals alike with the 'Hawkdun Room' being a great place for friends to socialise or travellers to meet.

We are located beside the Otago Central Rail Trail making us an ideal place to stay for those cycling the Rail Trail.

What some of our guests have to say...

"I would like to say this lodge was the most wonderful accommodation we had on the rail trail. One of our party even said it was the best he'd ever stayed at. You both went the extra mile to ensure our stay was enjoyable."
Maryanne Mitchell

"Just a quick note from the Thomas clan (and friends) who stayed at Hawkdun Lodge. Your accommodation was FANTASTIC – way above the standard we had expected to find on the trail. Apart from the great facilities – which we availed ourselves of fully – we really appreciated your helpfulness and willingness to be of service to us all, youngsters and oldies alike.
We finished the trail in Middlemarch and all agree that the highlight of our nights on the Trail was at Hawkdun Lodge! "

What is there to see and do in Maniototo...

Maniototo has a goldmining history and so there are many interesting historic places to visit such as St Bathans, Naseby, Danseys Pass, Patearoa, Styx and the Old Dunstan Road. These places all have stories of triumph and hardship. Join a guided 'historic tour' and learn about these fascinating places or drive at your leisure and explore for yourself.

Our landscape is also unique. Maniototo is a wide sprawling plain surrounded by mountains: Rough Ridge to the west, Rock & Pillar Range to the south, the Ida & Hawkdun Ranges to the north and the Kakanui Mountains to the east. These remote mountain ranges can be explored in comfort as part of a 'high country tour' or more energetically by tramping on the various tracks. The Oteake Conservation Park that lies to the north west of the Maniototo Plain offers another opportunity for getting into the great outdoors whether it be tramping, 4 wheel driving or mountain biking.

Maniototo is not just about the outdoors - we have wonderful cuisine, fine wines and great hospitality in our country pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Another point of interest is our Art Deco heritage. Many of the buildings in Ranfurly were built in Art Deco style after suspicious fires destroyed many shops and businesses in the 1930's. The community owned Centennial Milk Bar, a classic piece of modernist art deco design, has been refurbished and features a collection of Art Deco memorabilia.

Just email or call us - there is lots to see and do in Maniototo, let us organise a memorable stay for you!
